Your Body Is Part of the Conversation
We tend to think of emotions as something that happens in our mind.
Something makes us angry.
Something makes us sad.
Something scares us.
And then we try to think our way through it.
But your body is part of the conversation.
Your thoughts influence your body. Your body influences your thoughts and emotions.
You can probably think of a time when you felt anxious and noticed your heart beating faster, your breath getting shallow or your muscles tightening.
Your body is already telling you something.
And you can also use your body to change the conversation.
Try this:
What do you want to feel right now?
Then notice how your body would move if you were already feeling that way.
How would you breathe?
How would you hold yourself?
What would your face look like?
What sounds might you make?
And then allow yourself to experience whatever comes up.
This isn't about forcing yourself to feel happy when you don't.
It is about remembering that your body isn't separate from your inner life.
Your body is part of how you think, feel, decide and experience the world.
So what happens when you start listening to it?
