Protobag

I had an idea.

I thought it would be great to have a bag that could be adjusted to different sizes depending on what I wanted to carry.

I thought about it for a while.

I imagined how it could work. I thought about the different materials and how the bag could be constructed.

And then I realised something:

I could actually make it.

So I did.

I found some old fabric and started experimenting.

It wasn't perfect.

But it existed.

And that was the point.

I could have kept thinking about the bag for another six months. I could have researched different materials, looked at other bags and tried to figure out the perfect design.

But at some point you have to stop thinking and start doing.

Ideas don't become real because you think about them.

They become real when you do something with them.

This applies to much more than bags.

Sometimes thinking feels productive because you are doing something in your head.

But you might actually be avoiding the uncertainty of taking action.

You don't need to know exactly how something will turn out.

You can start with a prototype.

Make the first version.

Try it.

See what happens.

And then make the next version.

That is how ideas become real.
