Why I don’t believe in chasing happiness

I see many people chasing happiness. They try to find a fulfilling relationship, work towards their next promotion or plan their dream holiday.

But every search begins with the same belief:

“I don’t already have what I’m looking for.”

When you start searching for joy, you assume that you don’t have it.

You assume that it’s somewhere out there waiting to be found.

This doesn’t mean that external things can’t be enjoyable.

A holiday in Bali can be joyful.

A relationship with a loving partner can be fulfilling.

Making the next step in your career can be powerful.

It’s not about the thing that you are seeking itself, but about your relationship to them.

The trap is that the holiday or the other person becomes the REQUIREMENT for your joy.

I don’t believe joy is something you find.

I believe joy is something you create.

So stop looking for it. You can’t find it, even when you look intensely.

Joy isn’t a reward for trying really hard.

If joy is what you want to experience, let go of the trying and start CREATING joy.

Then you will realize that it’s been within you all the time.

This can be a humbling or even annoying moment, because you ask yourself why TF you have been working so hard for it in the first place.

That’s ok. Let it go and enjoy your newly created joy 🙂

Agree or disagree? Let me know.
