3 unusual ways to ground yourself during a busy day

You don’t need to have a stressful job or be ultra busy to benefit from moments of slowing down. The following practices provide an island of quiet self awareness that helps you to recalibrate and focus on the important next step instead of trying to just mindlessly plow through your to do-list.

  1. Slow, mindful movement is an excellent start. It doesn’t need to be a yoga break at the office to calm down. Try to take a couple of deep breaths or walk extra slowly from one meeting to the next.  Also take full 3 minutes to drink your coffee, instead of gulping it down while anxiously thinking about the e-mail you need to respond to. Pleasure can be everywhere.

  2. Shaking takes it one step further as it disrupts your usual range of movements. Set a timer to 1 to 5 minutes and move and shake your body. Let all of your body shake and move including the feet and your jaws. You will find yourself refreshed and lighter than before.

  3. Pleasure. This wonderful resource finds its way to this list as the unusual, self-affirming and deeply centering practice of the Queen that you are. Start with being present with your five senses. You can practice this during eating and smelling lunch, looking at a beautiful decoration or listening to some music. Take it further and touch yourself in a pleasurable way. If you want to go all in, move your body with pleasure and make some sounds!

Which grounding practices do you love? Let me know in the comments!
